Lydia Ouma Radoli, PhD

Lydia Radoli is a former journalist, social researcher, and media lecturer at Daystar University’s School of Communication, where she heads the Media and Film Studies (MFS) Department. She is a research fellow at the Leuphana Institute of Advanced Studies in Culture and Society (LIAS-CAS), Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany. Her current research work is at Suppressed Narratives Through the Life Cycle of Visual Rhetors (Journalists Covering Traumatic Events from East Africa). This research expands to address the Visual Witnessing Trauma Phenomenon among Journalists in East Africa. She has worked as a senior broadcast journalist and producer, in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, and contributed articles to Mkenya Ujerumani—a Diasporic Media outlet for Kenyans in Germany and We Will Lead Africa journal for African innovators based in the USA. She also established Diaspora Radio, an online platform to highlight Transnational African Narratives. She has served on the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Taskforce and vice chair of the Kenya Diaspora Youth Council (KDYC). She is also a fellow of the African Good Governance Network (AGGN) and served as its vice chair. A member of the Association of the Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), she serves on its Media and Publicity Committee. Her research interests are around media, migration, development, global cultures, political economy, and human rights. She has published and presented papers at international and local conferences and chaired sessions at the International Communication Association (ICA)— Regional Hub, Nairobi, and virtually at the Research Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (RAIS), UN Center—New York.
